Gorjanci

Gorjanci are the most known and visited Dolenjska mountain range, which rises above the Krško basin to Trdinov vrh (1178). Slovenian Gorjanci are only part of a comprehensive ecological area, which is extended far into Croatia. On its steep hillsides are many springs, therefore are Gorjanci important reservoir of drinking water for all Novo mesto basin. Among them are most well known mythological springs Gospodična and zaganjalka Minutnik. Clear streams such as Kobila, Pendirjevka, and Klamfer have carved deep and picturesque valleys in Northern hillsides. Natural features define the vast beech forests with preserved remnants of primeval forest on Ravna gora and Trdinov vrh. They are enlivened by many interesting flora, meadows and various forest communities that have evolved under the influence of diverse ecological conditions, especially in the valley of Kobila. On ridge of Gorjanci runs state border between Slovenia and Croatia. On Croatian side was in 1999 founded Park prirode Žumberak- Samoborsko gorje, on Slovenian side it is envisaged for central part of Gorjanci to be secured as region park.

Various settlers since prehistoric times have been upgrading natural sources of Gorjanci ever since. It is characterized by harmony of people on both sides of border. Despite the complexity of the border, it is not known to cause any complications between the two countries... This is due to the friendly relations between inhabitants of both sides, who were intensively involved during World War II. And have cooperated in people's liberation war. Troops were mixed brigades and partisan detachments. To fallen fighters, Slovene and Croatian, was dedicated memorial center on Croatian side in town Sošice.
